😕 The Most Common Confusion in Clothing Sizing
One of the biggest sizing confusions we hear from clients is this:
“My bust is 38 inches—so should I order a garment that’s size 38 too?”
Short answer: Not quite.
To help you feel confident ordering from us, let’s break down the difference between body measurements and garment measurements, and why both matter.
📏 Body Measurements: What You Measure on Yourself
These are the actual measurements of your body. At Step by PS, we ask for body measurements when you're placing a customised order—because we tailor each piece specifically for you.
Here's how to take them correctly:
-
Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape straight and snug but not tight.
-
Waist: Measure around the narrowest part of your waist—usually just above your belly button.
-
Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips.
✨Tip: Always use a soft measuring tape and take your measurements while wearing light clothing for accuracy.
👗 Garment Measurements: What You See on Our Size Chart
Our website size chart shows garment measurements, not body measurements. That means:
-
The bust size on the chart is the actual width of the finished garment, not your body’s.
-
We intentionally add 3–4 inches of “ease” in most of our linen outfits for a relaxed, breathable fit.
-
This ease ensures you can move comfortably without the outfit feeling tight or restrictive.
So, if your bust is 38", the garment in your size might measure around 41–42" at the bust, depending on the style.
🧵 How We Use Your Measurements at Step by PS
When you order a custom outfit, we use your body measurements to:
-
Add the right amount of ease based on the silhouette and fabric.
-
Create a final piece that fits not just your body—but your comfort preferences too.
That’s the beauty of thoughtful custom clothing.
